Retreats

The caring Network has contracted DEACSA to provide three retreats to 60 carers, paid for from our own funds from Catholic funders concerned to support the carers in the taxing work they do, often in very dire circumstances.  Funders wish to support and reward cares for their care of the sick, destitute and dying.

DEACSA evaluation for CTCH PDF Print E-mail

Dear Friends

DEACSA Weekend retreat Care of the Carer Program.

Easter Greetings to you all

Thank you for sending your staff. It was our pleasure to receive them and for those whom have previously attended the DEACSA three-day seminar on Dying, Death and Grief, it was interesting to see them again and to note their emotional and spiritual growth. It is also interesting to note that those who attended these, are still finding the skills helpful in both their work and family life.

Previously I sent out the information and request stated below. I am re-sending this as a gentle reminder. With Easter weekend approaching, I know that things tend to get hectic, but please to make an attempt to complete this as soon as possible as we need to submit these no later than 25 March.

This has been DEACSA's first attempt at providing emotional, spiritual, physical en Intellectual care to those who are making a difference in our communities.
1.    We have been funded by Cape Town City Health and we now have to answer to them by means of a written report based on the individual delegate's written evaluations completed at the end of each retreat.
2.    We ALSO need to submit a written evaluation from each of the Organisations that have sent their Carers.
3.    We would ask that you submit your reports to us no later than Tuesday 25 March 2008 by return e-mail.
4.    To assist you with these, the following may be helpful:
5.    A summary of overall verbal feedback given to you from the Carers themselves.
6.    An overall impression of your take of the feedback given by your Carers.
7.    Was the retreat successful in terms of: suitability, appropriateness, benefits gained by the delegates e.g.. team spirit, enjoyment, and what they disliked or perhaps did not enjoy.
8.    DEACSA's intent was to provide a safe place and space for delegates to be themselves, to receive emotional, spiritual, physical and intellectual stimulation and care.
9.    Some of your delegates have previously attended the program offered by AIDS RESPONSE at THE GRAIL using their program, we would like to receive a comparative feedback from those who have now also done DEACSA's program.
10.    The motivation behind this is that CTCH asked DEACSA: "Why should we fund your organisation when we are already funding AIDS Response and THE GRAIL program. In DEACSA's reply, we stated that some NGO's delegates said that: We did not like the Grail's program since our emotional wounds were scratched and we returned home bleeding without being healed. Others said that they had not enjoyed the weekend because it was like just another workshop where we had lectures and discussions only.
11.    CTCH awarded the funding as a pilot project to asses the effectiveness and appropriateness of our program.
12.    Therefore it is important to report if DEACSA's specific and intentionally designed program, is a better option in terms of what the delegates had experienced.
13.    With the help of CTCH funding and your input, we are hoping to continue this project.
Thanking you sincerely for the privilege of being of service to your organisation and your staff.

Easter Greetings
